LONDON IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR by Jerry White sold to The Bodley Head for 2014 publication
25 August 2010
We are delighted to announce that the UK and Commonwealth rights for Jerry White’s LONDON IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR have been sold to The Bodley Head. The book will be published in the summer of 2014 to coincide with the centenary of the war’s outbreak.
Will Sulkin, Publisher at The Bodley Head, acquired the rights to LONDON IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR from The Hanbury Agency.
London in the First World War will be a scholarly yet accessible history of the period. No other book has been published on this subject since the 1920s. The First World War was a momentous time in London's history, and Jerry White will write a terrific social history on the subject.
Will Sulkin said: "Jerry White knows more about London – and writes more brilliantly about it – than anyone else. His new book will take a big subject which, remarkably, hasn't been tackled in nearly a century and will allow us to reconnect with London – its people and places – at one of the most dramatic periods in its history."
Jerry White has been writing about London for over thirty-five years. He is the author of London in the Nineteenth Century, London in the Twentieth Century and the forthcoming London in the Eighteenth Century, to be published in May 2012. He is Visiting Professor of London History at Birkbeck and in 2005 was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature by the University of London.
