READ International

READ International is a social enterprise that sends unused books to schools Tanzania and Uganda. There are almost 1,000 student volunteers involved, operating from a network of over 45 university sites across the UK.

Since 2007, READ has sent over 850,000 books to East Africa, supported the renovation of dozens of school libraries and has sent several tonnes of sports kits, science equipment, and school stationery as well.

READ International was winner of 'Best New Charity' in the Charity Times Awards 2007, ‘Best International Aid and Development Charity’ in the Charity Awards 2010 and Best Corporate Partnership in the Institute of Fundraising Awards 2010.  READ's founder and director Rob Wilson was awarded Enterprising Young Brit 2010 and a Beacon Fellow for Young Philanthropist of the year 2010.
